Seven Kilometres to Hope: How Solar Irrigation Transformed Farming in Banjiram, Adamawa State

Following the removal of fuel subsidies in Nigeria in May 2023, petrol prices rose by approximately 226% by December 2023, with average retail prices rising from around N206.19 in December 2022 to over N671.86 per litre, marking the end of government-subsidised fuel prices. This severely affected smallholder farmers who depend on petrol-powered irrigation systems. In Banjiram Community of Guyuk LGA, Adamawa State, the economic pressure threatened production levels and household livelihoods.
