The Pump That Changed Everything: Solar Power Revives Dry-Season Farming in Northern Nigeria

For over 20 years, Baba Maurison Gilbert has relied on both rainy and dry seasons, and his own determination, to farm in the Banjiram Community of Guyuk LGA of Adamawa State. But while wet season farming came with its own challenges like flooding, erratic rain patterns, and drought, it was the dry season that truly tested his resolve. The cost of maintaining fuel-powered irrigation pumps, his only option for watering crops, turned farming into a costly battle for survival.
